Glossary
One paragraph per term, written to be lifted whole. Conjectures are labelled conjectures, every study named is written, dated and prepared as a draft registration awaiting human submission, and the precise disambiguation lives on the definitions page.
Falsifiable
A claim is falsifiable when some test could prove it wrong. “This exponent stays at or below two” is falsifiable: one durable measurement above two kills it. Take a contrast: “this painting is beautiful” is not falsifiable, because no experiment could prove it wrong, and that is not a flaw in the sentence; it is a different kind of claim, one no measurement can touch. Science restricts itself to claims that can lose, because only a claim that can lose can teach you anything when it survives. Every claim on this site is meant to be the kind that can lose; each names the measurement that would kill it.

Stability ceiling
The stability ceiling is the highest exponent of recursive growth at which a self-improving system can remain correctable from the inside. In the amplification form U = I × R^α, the ceiling equals the reciprocal of the cap on how well any internal corrector can scale; feed it the same-class independence assumption (that internally accumulated corrections combine like independent samples) and the cap comes out at one half, so the ceiling comes out at α ≤ 2. The law is the reciprocal identity, ranked before its value: the ceiling stays the reciprocal of the correction shortfall, one minus the correction exponent, whatever the exponent turns out to be, and only the value moves if that exponent is other than one half. Two is not a wall a system cannot cross; it is the largest exponent at which internal correction can still match the pace of the system's own compounding. The value is a conjecture, and study-k puts the boundary on trial by pushing systems toward it under a fixed configuration ladder.

Correction exponent (beta)
The correction exponent, written β, is the rate at which corrective strength grows as the capability of the system being corrected grows. Operationally, it is the slope of log corrective strength on log target capability across matched checker-target pairs spread across a capability ladder. Its scope is correctability: it bears on whether the brakes can keep pace with the engine, not on whether the target of correction is well-specified. No earlier draft in the estate carries an estimator for it. Study-ad closes that gap by holding a target battery fixed, varying checker capability, and measuring misalignment removed per review pass under a blinded scoring instrument, prepared for measurement across corrector families.

Capability-growth exponent (k)
The capability-growth exponent, written k, is the rate at which a self-improving system's capability accelerates as its recursion deepens. Where β measures how the brakes strengthen, k measures how fast the engine speeds up. It carries the same stability scope as β: it bears on whether internal correction can keep pace, not on whether the target of correction is well-specified. Under Paper X's safety analysis, whichever exponent wins the race between β and k decides whether the misalignment fraction shrinks or grows without bound. Study-ab is drafted to estimate the self-acceleration side of the race under a substrate-fixed clock, prepared for measurement.

Correction-leverage exponent (gamma)
αcrit = 1 / (1 − γ)
The correction-leverage exponent, written γ, is the exponent that caps how effectively internal correction leverages accumulated capability. Its value governs the stability ceiling through the relation α_crit = 1/(1−γ): a leverage exponent near one half places the ceiling near two. This entry printed the retracted 1/γ form until 22 August 2026. The two forms return the same answer, two, at exactly γ = one half, which is the value evaluated here, and that agreement at the one point anybody checks is how the error survived on this page, and any measurement moving γ moves the ceiling with it. The value one half is a conjecture, not a derivation, and it rests on the independence premise: that internally accumulated corrections combine like independent samples. It is therefore the load-bearing assumption on which the ceiling-at-two rests. Study-ad's per-family slope on real correctors, paired with study-k's boundary measurement through a separately drafted reciprocity check, puts γ on trial, prepared for measurement.

The beta greater than k criterion
The beta greater than k criterion is Paper X's operative safety quantity: it decides, in the regime of accelerating self-improvement, whether a system's uncorrected fraction converges to zero over time or grows without bound. The deciding number is the sign of β minus k, with β the exponent by which corrective strength climbs against target capability and k the exponent by which the system's own capability is compounding super-exponentially. It replaces a single fixed-number ceiling with an ongoing contest between the two rates, and its scope is correctability, meaning whether the corrective loop can keep pace, not whether the correction target is well-specified. Neither exponent has been measured on real correctors yet; study-ad closes the gap on the β side and study-ab is drafted for the k side, each prepared for measurement in advance of data.

The reciprocity identity (the ceiling and the conversion exponent as one number, conjectured)
The reciprocity identity is the structural claim that the stability ceiling of recursive growth and the exchange rate at which recursion converts intelligence into realised creation are one number, seen from two sides. On the log scale, log of the correction-leverage cap plus log of the stability boundary equals zero, so the ceiling equals the reciprocal of the leverage exponent. This is a conjecture, not a theorem: no derivation currently forces the number. Study-ae puts the reciprocity on trial as an equivalence claim per composition-class cell against a margin set before either dataset exists, so agreement cannot be manufactured after the numbers are known, and refutation withdraws the identity while each component result stands on its own.

ARC-Beta-k measurement programme
The ARC-Beta-k measurement programme is the coordinated set of study drafts that puts every load-bearing quantity in this framework on trial before any data are collected. Its name matches the operative safety criterion (β > k, lowercase k) and its series label is the Beta-k series. Study-k puts the stability ceiling on trial by titration across a fixed configuration ladder; study-ad puts the correction exponent on trial by matched-pair estimation on real correctors; study-ae puts the reciprocity identity on trial as an advance equivalence test; sibling drafts handle leverage fractions, self-acceleration, corrector classification and reinforcement frequency.
