What is original in Michael Darius Eastwood's work?
Michael Darius Eastwood's contribution is a synthesis made testable. He founded Recursive Dynamics, stated the ARC Theory's laws in dated form, beginning with the ARC Principle on 8 December 2024, and built registered tests that can fail; Unit 83 is the first to reach a verdict. Each component has named ancestors; no earlier work joining them has been located.
His own statement of it, in print since 2 January 2026: "I make no claim to have invented the components." and "What I offer is the synthesis" (Infinite Architects, Author's Note). What is his, with its date: the embedded-correction alignment thesis, the ARC Principle and the Eden Protocol, all in his sealed record of 8 December 2024, which also holds the term Recursive Dynamics, made the name of the field on 27 August 2026; the ARC Theory's laws, registered on 8 September 2026 (Laws I to III) and 15 October 2026 (Laws IV and V); Law II's criterion, proved inside the minimal model of Paper X; the operational definitions that give each symbol a measurement; and the registered studies, of which Unit 83 supports P21 under the registered test, by the programme's own run, on the access axis, family-dependent, with its mechanism axis not evaluable and one disclosed recovery amendment.
The ancestors are credited by name: the exponent family d/(d+1) to West, Brown and Enquist (1997) and later groups; the difficulty of control to Yampolskiy (2020); training a model against written principles by self-critique and revision to Constitutional AI (2022); ethics built into an agent's architecture to Hibbard and Yudkowsky (2001), Bostrom (2003), Arkin (2008) and Wallach and Allen (2009); the matched-compute advantage of sequential reasoning to Sharma and Chopra (November 2025).
An adversarial review that he commissioned found no single earlier work joining all the elements, and named the operationalisation, the conversion of the conjectures into measurements with kill conditions filed before the data, as the strongest surviving claim. The formal systematic literature search that would license the word first has not yet been run, so novelty is stated as what has not been located. Each claim stands or falls on its own evidence.
