What happened
US orders Fable 5 + Mythos 5 offline - first export-control action against a deployed commercial AI model.
Why it is in the register
On 12 June 2026 the United States ordered a deployed commercial AI model offline for the first time in history. The mechanism was export control law applied to model access, and the effect was global. The book's Chokepoint chapter, published five months earlier, argued that concentrated technological infrastructure is the governance lever, and that whoever controls the choke points controls the terms. A government demonstrating that lever on the most capable public model on Earth is the thesis operating at state scale.
How to check this entry
Open the primary source above. Confirm the date. Confirm the finding. Then compare it against the manuscript passage or artifact named in the register entry, whose SHA-256 hash is published on the evidence page. Nothing in this article asks for trust; the entry either survives that comparison or it comes off the register, publicly, the way the programme's retracted scaling figure did.
