Polymathic Neurodivergence, Institutional Misrecognition, and the Case for Strengths-Based Reasonable Adjustments

Polymathic Neurodivergent Profile (PNP) Framework v1.0

Abstract

This paper proposes the Polymathic Neurodivergent Profile (PNP) as a descriptive, non-diagnostic framework for a rare but practically important pattern: unusually strong cross-domain learning, recursive pattern transfer, autonomous synthesis, and high output in complex, high-interest domains, coexisting with clinically significant difficulty in routine administration, pacing, timekeeping, task-switching, sensory or social load, and low-stimulation procedural work.

The Core Thesis

The central insight is named the Capability–Adjustment Fallacy: the institutional inference that visible high performance in complex, high-interest domains is evidence that reasonable adjustments for procedural, administrative, or low-stimulation tasks are unnecessary. This inference is unsafe. It is contradicted by NICE CG142, which directs professionals to recognise the discrepancy between intellectual functioning (IQ) and adaptive functioning. It is contradicted by strengths-based assessment. It is contradicted by the Equality Act 2010.

Capability describes what can be done under favourable cognitive conditions. Disability describes where a person is substantially disadvantaged by the environment, the process, or the demand structure. Both can be true at once.

The Six Components of PNP

1. Cross-Domain Learning

Demonstrated ability to acquire, integrate, and apply knowledge from structurally unrelated fields — AI, quantum physics, metabolic biology, law, neuroscience — within the same person across a compressed timeframe, without formal instruction in each domain.

2. Recursive Pattern Transfer

Natural tendency to recognise structural similarities across domains (recursive amplification as a principle operating in AI reasoning, quantum error correction, acoustic time crystals, biological allometry, and consciousness science) and to apply those recognised forms to new problems.

3. Autonomous Synthesis

Self-directed integration of cross-domain material into novel frameworks (U=I×R; Eden Protocol; HRIH creation theory; the Chokepoint thesis). This is not assembly of prior knowledge but the generation of frameworks that did not previously exist in the literature.

4. Monotropic Hyperfocus

Capacity for sustained, high-output engagement with self-directed, high-interest, high-complexity material over compressed periods. Measurable in output volume, not self-report.

5. Executive Function Asymmetry

Demonstrated difficulty with routine administration, timekeeping, task-switching, pacing, sensory load, and low-stimulation procedural work — coexisting with the capabilities described in components 1-4. Clinically documented through formal autism/ADHD assessment.

6. Institutional Misrecognition

Recurrent pattern of institutions interpreting components 1-4 as evidence that components 5 are not genuine, despite clinical documentation. The institution converts the person's strengths into evidence against their needs — the Capability-Adjustment Fallacy in operation.

What This Paper Claims — And Does Not

✅ Claims: There exists a recurring, describable pattern of cross-domain high ability combined with disability-linked impairment in routine procedural functioning. This pattern is under-described. Describing it improves clinical formulation and institutional treatment. Each supporting component is individually grounded in existing literature.

❌ Does not claim: That PNP is a diagnosis. That every neurodivergent person fits. That the profile confers superiority. That AI "creates" the pattern. That documenting it guarantees any legal outcome. PNP is a descriptive construct to be tested, refined, or refuted — not a discovery to be announced.

Falsifiability

PNP is offered as a falsifiable hypothesis. The conditions under which it would be abandoned are specified in advance:

  • ▸ If cross-domain learning does not transfer to novel domains that postdate the original formulation.
  • ▸ If recursive pattern transfer produces no correct predictions in advance of external confirmation.
  • ▸ If executive function assessments demonstrate uniform high functioning rather than asymmetry.
  • ▸ If the framework's integration proves post-hoc rather than pre-registered.

Clinical + Legal Integration

The PNP framework is designed to be usable across three settings simultaneously:

  • ▸ Clinical: A psychiatrist-facing formulation. "This person's high performance in complex domains is consistent with autism, not contradictory to it."
  • ▸ Legal: A court-facing adjustment logic grounded in the Equality Act 2010 and the CPR. "The same condition that enables exceptional analytical capability also impairs procedural compliance. Reasonable adjustments are required for the latter, not negated by the former."
  • ▸ Research: A falsifiable construct with pre-registered failure conditions. Open to independent testing, replication, or refutation.

Connection to the ARC/Eden Programme

The PNP framework is not separate from the research programme. It is the clinical and cognitive formalisation of the architecture that produced it. The dated interdisciplinary manuscript is primary evidence of the PNP in operation, while independently sourced convergences test whether its structural pattern recognition produces useful predictions. The Hernández-Espinosa and Mezquita papers support the clinical claim at the peer-reviewed level.
